Christoph Prégardien and Michael Gees are, beyond the shadow of a doubt, among the greatest interpreters of Schubert’s song cycle “Die schöne Müllerin” which demands a wide range of colours and moods.

Franz Schubert’s “Die schöne Müllerin” - consisting of twenty songs – deals with the miller’s emotions as he finds, and then loses, his love. The boundaries between an unbridled will to live, fear and despondency, and a sadness bordering on depression are fully explored, taking performers and audiences alike to the very limits of the human psyche.
